Hexcel Congratulates Boeing on the First Flight of the 777X

STAMFORD, Conn., January 25, 2020 – Hexcel congratulates The Boeing Company on a successful first flight for the new 777X airplane.

Hexcel is proud to be on board as a supplier of honeycomb core throughout the interiors, flight control surfaces, secondary structures and nacelles, along with engineered core in the wing leading edges and prepregs and engineered parts along the wing trailing edges. Hexcel helps the 777X take flight through the use of carbon fiber materials in the engine fan blades and casing as well as in its secondary structures. Colleen Pritchett, President – Aerospace, Americas said, “At Hexcel, we have a long and proud history developing and supplying advanced composite technologies to propel the future of flight. We’re proud to have been selected to partner with Boeing on this incredible new aircraft.”

The 777X is Boeing’s newest family of twin-aisle airplanes. Boeing Commercial Airplanes in November 2013 launched the airplane at the Dubai Airshow with 259 orders and commitments from four customers. Production of the 777X began in 2017 and first delivery is targeted for 2021.
